1、Introduction

  The rapid development of science and technology after the middle of 20th century has made analysis and control of complex systems becoming a major challenge facing system science and control theory. Deep analysis and understanding the characteristics of complex systems and investigate control methods for system performance improvement will not only have important theoretical value but also play an important role in national defense and economic progress.

  Since 1980s, complex system control theory has become one of the major directions of the discipline of Control Science and Engineering of Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU). In particular, we have been focused on complex industry processes and complex networked systems, which are two important research areas of complex system control. The complexity of the former comes from the contradiction between the dynamical uncertainty and information incompleteness of industry environment and the optimization goal of industry production, while the complexity of the latter roots in the essential connected feature of many large-scale systems. We have achieved systematic research achievements by exploiting the complexity mechanism and characteristics of the two classes of problems and investigating the corresponding control theory and method.

In this direction, there are 8 full professors and 5 associate professors. Our researches have been supported by 3 NSF key projects, 2 NSF project for Distinguished Young Scholars and 18 NSF projects over the past 10 years. We had published more than 200 SCI cited papers, which have received more than 1000 SCI citations. The research achievements in this direction have won a number of honors and awards, including the 2003, 2006 and 2008 first class awards of Achievements in Science and Technology of Shanghai. In addition, more than 80 PhD students and 180 Master students were graduated in this direction.

 

 

 

2、Faculty Members

 

     Xi Yugeng was born in 1946. He graduated from Harbin Institute of Engineering in 1968. From 1979 to 1984 he visited the Technical University Munich, Germany, where he received the Dr.-Ing. degree in 1984. Since then, he has been with the Department of Automation, Shanghai Jiao Tong University. He was promoted as professor in 1988 and served as department Head and the Dean of the School of Electronics and Information from 1997 to 2001. His research interests include predictive control, large scale and complex systems and intelligent robotic systems. He has published more than 300 journal papers and three books, as well as edited three conference proceedings. He eight times received the Awards for the Achievements in Advancement of Science and Technology by the Chinese Ministry of Education and Shanghai Government. He was the Vice Chair of IFAC Technical Committee Large Scale Systems from 1996 to 1999, the Executive Vice Chair and IPC Chair of the 3^rd ASCC in 2000, the Chair of ACPA (Asian Control Professor Association) from 2001 to 2002, and the IPC Chair, Vice Chair or member of more than 40 international conferences. He is currently the Steering Committee member of ACA (Asian Control Association), the Vice President of CAA (Chinese Association of Automation), the President of SAA (Shanghai Association of Automation) and the editor, associate editor or editorial board member of 11 academic journals, including Control Engineering Practice, Int.J.of Humanoid Robotics, ACTA Automatica Sinica etc.

 

 Wang Xiaofan was born in 1967.  He received the Ph.D. degree from Southeast University, China in 1996. From October 1996 to August 1999 he was a Post-Doctorate Fellow and then an Associate Professor in the Department of Automation, Nanjing University of Scientific and Technology, China. From September 1999 to August 2000, he was a Research Associate in the Department of Electronic Engineering, City University of Hong Kong. From October 2000 to January 2001, he was a Post-Doctorate Research Fellow in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, University of Bristol, UK. Since 2002, he has been a Professor in the Department of Automation, Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU). Since October 2004, He has been Vice Dean of the School of Electronic, Information and Electrical Engineering, SJTU. He received the 2002 National Science Foundation for Distinguished Young Scholars of P. R. China and the 2005 Guillemin-Cauer Best Transactions Paper Award from the IEEE Circuits and Systems Society. His current research interests include analysis and control of complex dynamical networks. He has (co)authored 2 books and more than 50 SCI papers. He is a senior member of IEEE and served as an Associate Editor of IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems-II.

 

Li Shaoyuan  was born in 1965. He received the Ph.D degree from the Department of Computer and System Science in Nankai University. Since 2000, he has been a full professor in the Department of Automation, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, where he is now the department dean. He was awarded the New Centurial Excellent Researcher of the Ministry of Education and Outstanding Scientist Award from National Natural Science Foundation of China in the year 2004 and 2008 respectively. His research interests include the theories and applications of predictive control, adaptive control and fuzzy intelligent control. His main academic achievements include the multi-model predictive control for nonlinear system control based on fuzzy models, and the constrained satisfactory optimized control based on fuzzy goals. He has published more than 200 research papers on international and domestic academic journals and conferences, with more than 150 SCI and EI indexed articles. He has been the primary subscriber of more than 10 research projects including the National Natural Science Foundation of China and National 863 Projects. His paper “Generalized Predictive Control with Fuzzy Soft Constraints” won the Best Poster Award on the 3rd Asian Control Conference in 2000. Professor Li is currently a Senior Member of IEEE. He has served as the IPC Secretary General of the 4thWorld Congress on Intelligent Control and Automation in 2002, the Program Committee Secretary General of the 23rd Chinese Control Conference in 2004, the IPC Chair of International Conference on Modelling、Identification and Control in 2008, and the International Organizing Committee Chair of the 2009 IEEE CDC/CCC. He is the associated editor of “Asian Journal of Control”, “International Journal of Innovation Computing, Information and Control”, and “International Journal of Modelling, Identification and Control”.
