Research
A main aspect of the lab research focuses on the tumor suppression mechanism of epigenetic regulator TET1 in gastric cancer. It appears that TET1-mediated 5hmc production can induce p53 activation, which suppresses EZH2, leading to tumor suppression. Another area of the lab research is about the relation of chronic inflammation and gastric cancer. Chronic inflammation can be caused by viral, bacterial infections or by sterile inflammation. The lab is particularly interested in the complicate immune cell behaviors associated with chronic inflammation during gastric carcinogenesis. We found that neutrophils are heavily present in gastric cancer tissues and negatively correlated to E-cadherin expression. Neutrophils likely play imporant regulatory roles in gastric cancer formation.
