课程内容简介(Course Introduction):

Deregulation of electricity supply industries worldwide and the resultant arrival of competition is forcing power utilities to utilize their existing facilities to ever higher levels of efficiency, enabled by advances in power electronics technology. In the 1990s a number of control devices, collectively known as FACTS technology, have come into widescale operation and offer further opportunities to improve the control of transmission systems. There are basically two types of shunt connected FACTS components and series connected FACTS systems. This course deals with the design and applications of the FATCS components.

 

教学大纲(Course Teaching Outline):

The course will start with the basic introduction to the FACTS. As shunt connected FACTS are more common in power system, a detailed design analysis of shunt connected FACTS systems SVC and STATCOM will be discussed next. Topologies, modeling, control design and simulation in MATLAB will be discussed in detail. Application case studies will be conducted to more thoroughly and detailed will also be done. Series connected FACTS will also be discussed with application to to system stability.

This will be an eight week course. Following list details the topics covered each week

Week 1.

Introduction to FACTS, Different generation and types of FACTS, Breif introduction to their application.

Week 2.

Introduction to STATCOM, Design of STATCOM, Multilpulse technology and harmonic elimination. 6, 12, 24 and 48 pulse converters design.

Week 3

Introduction to MATLAB SIMULINK and step by step simulation of 48 pulse converter. Analytic modeling of converter. Different components design.

Week 4

Control aspects of STATATCOM. Measurement of active and reactive power. Phase angle control of STATCOM Linearized modeling and controller design using Bode diagram. Application of Phase locked loops in power measurement.

Week 5

Control implementation verification using MATLAB.

Introduction to SVC. SVC design analysis. SVC control properties analysis.

Week 6

 Simulation of SVC. Comparison with STATCOM.

Case studies. Power Flow improvement. Angle Stability augmentation.

Week 7

Case Studies: Reactive Power Support.

Introduction to series connected FACTS.

Week 8

      Case Study: Sub synchronous Series Resonance. Disscsion about Final assignments.
