SJTU Online Teaching Arrangement for the 2020 Spring Semester (during epidemic prevention and control period) (for students)

Dear students,

According to the requirements of the Ministry of Education and the Shanghai Municipal Education Committee, as well as the arrangements provided by  Shanghai Jiao Tong University in line with the “Shanghai Jiao Tong University Pause Schooling, Keep Learning Charter”《上海交通大学关于 2020 年春季学期停课不停教、不停学的工作方案》, the following notice is hereby issued regarding the arrangement for online teaching and learning during the epidemic prevention and control period.

 

1.    Online Course Arrangement

Based on the online teaching platform, SJTU will carry out various forms of online teaching including live teaching, video assisted teachingMOOCs assisted teaching (Massive Open Online Course) and workshop style teaching for most theoretical courses. Students are advised to visit the SJTU Academic Information Service webpage (for undergraduates, http://kbcx.sjtu.edu.cn) or the SJTU Graduate Education Information Management System (for postgraduates, http://www.yjs.sjtu.edu.cn/ssfw/login.jsp) to lookup the online teaching schedules for the 2020 spring semester. (These two systems are only for checking teaching schedules. For schedule and class adjustments, please log in to check the latest arrangement.) Students can also find out the teaching form and timetable on these two websites. To attend online courses, students will need to use the ZOOM application with a “Meeting No. (会议号) and Password (参会密码).” In order to ensure efficient online studying, please install the ZOOM software and be familiar with the operation in advance on computers or mobile devices (computers preferred). The download link is https://zoom.com.cn/download.

2. Registration

Students should complete online semester registration according to the following instructions:

1)     TimeFeb. 28, 2020 8:00 a.m.— Mar. 1, 2020 5:00 p.m.

2)     Website linkhttp://my.sjtu.edu.cn or 交我办APP

3)     Students who are unable to register online on time should contact the related school (or department) in advance to ask for temporary leave. The list of students who ask for leave will be imported by each school (or department) staff to the registration system before 4:30 p.m. on March 1st, 2020.

4)     Students who apply for resumption of schooling need to contact the Secretarial Office of the related school before registering online.

3. Preparation for Online Courses

In this special period, all students should take the initiative to stay in contact with teachers and teaching assistants by fully leveraging Internet tools. Information about online contact groups (Wechat, QQ, etc.), learning materials and curriculum requirements can be obtained on the Shanghai Jiao Tong University Academic Information Service website and CANVAS (https://oc.sjtu.edu.cn/). Please pay close attention to the notices posted online, join contact groups in advance, and preview the courses.

4.    Requirements for Online Courses

1)    Students should obey the online classroom discipline requirements announced by the teachers and learning evaluation of students. In principle, the management regulations of offline learning are also applicable to online studying. Both teachers and students should act accordingly.

2)    Students are required to attend online classes on time based on the academic calendar and timetable, take an active part in class discussion, and complete online assessments and tests in a timely manner.

3)   Students are required to overcome possible technical and communication problems in order to fulfill learning tasks. Students are also encouraged to give feedback or suggestions regarding effective teaching to the teachers, schools, or IT departments.

4)   Students are not allowed to disseminate course materials such as recorded videos of the course for reasons other than personal learning purposes. These course materials are only for the use of SJTU students and faculty members.

5. Third Round of Course Selection for Undergraduate StudentsTBD

1)     Time: Feb. 28, 2020 1:00 p.m. — Mar. 10, 2020 8:30 a.m.

2)     Notes:

l  From 1:00 p.m. on Feb. 28 to 8:30 a.m. on Mar. 9, students can select and withdraw from courses. From 1:00 p.m. on Mar. 9  to 8:30 a.m. on Mar. 10, students may not withdraw from courses but will still be able to select courses. To avoid needless trouble, it is suggested that students make decisions as soon as possible.

l  Each school and department will adjust or cancel some courses if the participants are not enough. Please go to the SJTU Academic Information Service websitei.sjtu.edu.cnand check the final results of course enrollment. Meanwhile to check online teaching schedules, please visit http://kbcx.sjtu.edu.cn .

l  For all those who will graduate soon, any withdrawal of general core courses or public elective courses will not be allowed. Please select the available MOOC courses during the third round of course selection.

l  If senior students and above, those who apply for resumption of schooling and who have finished their due learning tasks cannot add courses for some reason, they may go to my.sjtu.edu.cn and submit applications. Application time: Mar.2, 8:30 a.m. — Mar. 13, 1:30 p.m.

3)     Online Consulting Platform

If there is any problem during the third round of course selection, students may visit the SJTU online consulting platform (http://xkzx.sjtu.edu.cn) and ask for help. Please pay close attention to all notices released by the university or the departments, check mailboxes regularly, and keep close contact with the departments.

Furthermore, SJTU BBS is where students can get to know all the helpful information. Please go to https://dev.bbs.sjtu.edu.cn/ and visit the column “Study at SJTU”. Announcements, learning materials, and SJTU news will be released there without any delay. Online interaction with seniors or teachers can also be realized. Please note that only with Jaccount can one log in to the system.

6. Curriculum Adjustments for Postgraduate Students

1) Time: Feb. 17, 2020 10:00 a.m. — Feb. 29, 2020  8:00 p.m.

2) Notes:

l  Postgraduates are allowed to rearrange their individual training plans and add or drop courses during the period mentioned above. Students who have courses to re-take or re-exam shall also submit applications within this period.

l  Each school and department will adjust or cancel some courses if the participants are not enough. Please go to the SJTU Graduate Education Information Management System and check the final results of course enrollment.

l  For those who need to change their training plans, please make adjustments in the SJTU Graduate Education Information Management System in the first place, print the confirmation form, scan the signed form, and send to the supervisor. The  supervisor will print, sign, scan, and send the final version to the related department.

l  In the second week after online studying has started, if students want to withdraw courses with special cases, they may send an e-mail to SherryLi327@sjtu.edu.cn via their own SJTU e-mail address, indicating the course name, class number, teacher’s name, reasons for withdrawal, etc. Adding or dropping courses will not be accepted beyond these periods of time.

7. Learning Materials and Guidelines

All course materials will be archived on the CANVAS platform for your reference after class learning.
