课程内容简介(Course Introduction):

Power system stability is concerned with the ability of the power system to maintain synchronism when subject to a severe disturbance, such as a short circuit on a transmission line. The resulting system response involves large excursion of generator rotor angles and is influenced by the nonlinear power-angle relationship. To thoroughly understand the behavior of power system dynamics, the accurate modeling of the system is the fundamental requirement. This course is oriented to Ph.D. students who are interested in power system stability analysis by traditional time domain simulation and transient energy function methods. The theoretical foundations are introduced, with emphasis on building the mathematical models, clarifying shortcomings of the existing methods and possible research directions.

教学大纲(Course Teaching Outline):

This course is a selective course for first-year PhD candidates who are interested in applying nonlinear system theory to solve power system dynamic problems. The aim of this course is to strengthen students’ basic concepts of conventional dynamic modeling and introduce typical methods for stability analysis and control problems arising from power system operation, control and planning. Contents include study of preliminary ways of building dynamic models of various power systems problems, applications of conventional nonlinear system techniques, such as linear and nonlinear control methods, to solve power system dynamic problems, analysis of major difficulties arising from large scale power system control, identifications of limits of the chosen mathematical methods. This course will prepare students to grasp dynamic modeling spirits and control theory with applications to power systems, that go beyond the limits of mere technical calculations.
